I’ve made New Year’s resolutions the past few years to blog more, and we all know how those pesky resolutions fall by the wayside as the year progresses.
It doesn’t help that Mike switched our hosting service a few months ago and accidentally took down our blog, without either of us (or anyone else, likely) noticing until last week.
I’m drafting a 2009-year-in-review post and will try to get that up soon. Haha, I almost believe it myself.

We built a little raised garden bed this spring! We planted beans, peas, and lettuce, and some of the peas were ready to harvest yesterday, so Farmer Mike picked them (thanks to instructions from a Youtube video) and we partook. Delicious!

Despite having spent many summers in Boston, neither Mike nor I had previously managed to make it to the fireworks downtown. But here’s proof that we were there this year:
I took a short video too:
Boston 4th
Last month was so busy (but fun!) with my MIT reunion, Paul moving up to Boston for the summer, and Mark and Mandy’s wedding!!

Car:

2009 Subaru Forester
Edit by Kathleen: Mike meant to say, “This is the canyonero vehicle that we purchased this weekend.” But really he was too tired after a day of grueling yard work & driveway sweeping & car washing to do more than test an image upload after moving this blog into its subdirectory, so he didn’t.

Seeing TripAdvisor’s (rather new) Swedish site reminds me of Hatten är din …. ah the nostalgia.

Wow, I just realized that I can bulk-insert pictures into blog posts. Yippee! So with no further ado and minimal effort, I present our egg-dying and food-eating with Boppity. (And you’ll have to ask Mike why he decided to put an egg in his mouth.)

So … yes, we went to Jamaica a few weekends ago, and had lots of fun! We stayed at Sandals Royal Caribbean (the link is to my review on TripAdvisor), thanks to a sweet deal. We snorkeled, rode on a catamaran, kayaked, water-tricycled (I’ve gotta get the underwater camera pictures developed one of these days), ziplined (see pictures here), played croquet,

observed flora and fauna,

ate,

drank,

and lounged!

A great little time away from it all. It was rough coming back to the cold (especially since in packing so light, we hadn’t brought along jackets for getting to/from the airport here) but we hung in there and sure enough, spring eventually showed up in Boston. Well, sorta. I think I heard it’s supposed to be in the 40s again next week.

We wanted to do a semi-spontaneous long weekend somewhere warm to get out of the not-really-cold-but-still-definitely-not-hot Boston weather, and we were able to get a decent deal on a nonstop flight and an amazing hotel discount a month in advance, so it was a no-brainer to plan a little getaway to Jamaica.
I’ll write more later but for now, here are some pictures from ziplining through the forest ….

I haven’t posted in awhile, so here goes…
In the past I’ve used Google Maps for Javascript and thought it was quite and powerful. Only one problem - I’m not much of a JavaScript fan. Luckily I stumbled across the Google Maps API for Flash. Basically it’s the same interface as JavaScript, but now in ActionScript! How cool is that?
In less than an hour I had a Flex app showing draggable markers in Google Maps!
Stay tuned for some cool demos showing maps in Flex!
